The EU ETS will apply to 50% of emissions for voyages between an EU/EEA port and a port outside of the EU/EEA and to 100% of emissions for voyages between two EU/EEA ports.European Union Allowances (EUAs) are purchased from the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) with the price per unit fluctuating in line with standard supply and demand in trading. EUAs will be traded on an open market platform overseen by the European Energy Exchange (EEX – www.eex.com), who are the group nominated by the EU and its member states to manage the daily auctions.
From 1 July 2026, emissions generated during UK port calls are now subject to surrender obligations under the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS). UK Allowances (UKAs) are purchased on the open market, with prices fluctuating in line with supply and demand, similar to EU ETS arrangements.
